Brides Guide to Picture Perfect Makeup and Hair for your Wedding Day
In preparing for your wedding, there are always many things to think about: venue, florists, catering, invitations, etc. One of the things brides tend to neglect is scheduling hair and makeup appointments, even when hair and makeup are the two most key aspects of a wedding! Flowers, food, and invitations are often forgotten, but pictures are forever so every bride should look their best. Unfortunately, far too often brides will say “My wedding day was beauty beautiful. Everything was perfect, except for me hair.” Not only does beautiful hair perfect a bride’s wedding day look, but a hair appointment is a great way for a bride to relax.
When scheduling a hair appointment, it is always important to also schedule a trial appointment. The bride never wants complications or surprises on their big day! I suggest the bride come in and get a bridal consultation, ideally three months before the wedding day, and schedule two appointments where the bride and her stylist can try out different looks. It is important not to make these appointments too close to the wedding day in case the bride finds the consultation unsatisfactory and she wants to meet with other stylists. During these appointments, a friend should take digital photographs so that the bride can see how the styles looks in pictures. I also recommend that the bride wear the style for a few hours to see how it holds up and also to see if it complements the dress. If possible, the bride should coordinate the hair appointment with the dress fitting.
I suggest the bride get her hair cut no more than two weeks before the wedding day and no less than one week. It is important that the bride make sure her hair color is touched up at least one week before the wedding day. Also, she should make no major color changes prior to the wedding! If the bride wants to grow her hair out for the wedding, she should get weekly treatments to insure her hair stay healthy. If tanning before the wedding, she should make sure she covers her hair so that it does not dry out or fade.
If the wedding is a destination wedding, a bride should not hesitate to ask her stylist to come along. It brings an element of comfort when the stylist you are familiar with is there for you. If the stylist is unable to travel, they can always do pre-trial appointments and take pictures so that the bride is able to show another stylist the looks she wants.
Something I often here from my bride clients is “this isn’t really me,” or “I don’t usually look this done-up. I want something more natural.” I tell these brides that this is their special day and it is their day to shine. They don’t normally wear a big white dress either!
