How to Plan Plastic Surgery for Your Wedding
Every since you were a little girl, you’ve fantasized about what your ideal wedding would look like - from the color of the flowers to the style of cake. You’ve fixed the image of your entire family and friends looking on proudly as you and your Prince Charming recite your vows. As the big day approaches, you may try on the perfect dress but notice some things in the mirror that you never planned for in your dream wedding. You may notice a wrinkle on the forehead, a hint of facial hair, a bulge in the midsection or a bust that doesn’t quite fill out that wedding gown.
Sometimes a little surgical or non-surgical enhancement before the big day can make the dream a reality. Considering your options and planning the timing of your visits to the plastic surgeon requires a little experience and forethought. This article will give you a brief summary of the most popular options and make recommendations regarding the timing of these procedures.
As a rule, surgical procedures should be planned as far in advance of the wedding date as possible. This will allow you adequate time to heal and allow your body to recuperate so you can enjoy your honeymoon. The most popular pre-wedding surgical procedures are breast augmentation and liposuction. Breast augmentation increases the bust-line and allows you to fill out your wedding gown to ideal proportions. When combined with liposuction that removes excess fat around the waist, hips and thighs, you can achieve a beautiful hourglass figure. These procedures should be performed at least 6 weeks prior to the wedding date.
The next most popular surgical procedures are abdominoplasties and rhinoplasties (tummy-tucks and nose-jobs.) These require slightly longer recovery periods, with the recommendation being to have these performed at least 2-3 months prior to the wedding date. Other procedures such as otoplasty (ear pinning) and facelifts require a similar recovery period. Again, with these more invasive surgeries, the more time you give yourself to recover before the wedding date, the better. Six-months to one year before the wedding is considered optimal.
Non-invasive procedures such as Botox, Juvederm and Radiesse can remove wrinkles and fine lines. Dermal fillers can be used to plump up the lips on a non-permanent basis. Remember, you will be photographed hundreds of times on your wedding day. Every little line or wrinkle will be seen and memorialized forever. These procedures are quick and convenient. However, they can cause bruising and swelling for a few days afterwards. It is recommended to have any injectable procedure performed at least two full weeks before your wedding day. Since the effect of these procedures are temporary (lasting anywhere from 3 months to one year) you should not have these done too far in advance either. Again, two-weeks to one month prior to the wedding date is ideal.
Laser hair removal, photo-facials and microdermabrasion can remove hair and rejuvenate the skin to give you a healthy smooth glow. However, they should also be performed two weeks prior to the big day to allow your skin time to recover.
Remember, your wedding is a once in a lifetime event. A little help from a board certified plastic surgeon can truly make it the wedding of your dreams.
